The Faculty of Foreign Languages prepares the professionals in such specialties:
- English language and literature,
- German language and literature,
- French language and literature,
- Spanish language and literature,
- Translating (English, German, French languages).
The faculty graduates can work as a higher or secondary school teacher, an interpreter, a referent and so on.
The faculty includes 5 departments:

- The Department of German Philology (the head - Vapirov Sergy Yurijovych candidate of philological science, associate professor), ph. 289-12-71;
- The Department of Romance Philology (the head - Shargai Iryna Evgenijivna, candidate of philological science, associate professor), ph. 289-12-56;
- The Department of Theory and Practice of Translating (the head - doctor of philological science, professor Zatsny Yury Antonovych), ph. 289-12-27;
- The Department of the Second Foreign Language (the head - Ruzhyn Kateryna Mukhailivna, candidate of pedagogical science, associate professor), ph. 289-12-49;
Three scientific and methodical centers, more than ten scientific clubs and creative groups of students work at the faculty.
The faculty teachers and students widely use in their work such resources:
- three video classrooms;
- computer lab;
- Internet and parabolic system networks;
- modernly equipped sound laboratories;
- reading room of the foreign literature;
- the library of multimedia devices for studying.
During the studying process the students:
- get knowledge in the realm of modern foreign languages, classical knowledge in Latin language, ancient and foreign literature;
- study such theoretical courses as general study of languages, theoretical grammar, history of language, lexicology, study of linguistics and countries, linguophilosophy, psycholinguistics, cognitive linguistics, social linguistics, linguistics and political science;
- in-deep study theory of literature, development of the European literature process from the Middle Age till nowadays;
- get knowledge in the folklore.
The knowledge in the realms of law, management, marketing, history of culture, sociology, psychology, pedagogy along with classical education and fluent speaking in two-three modern foreign languages make our alumni people, who is demanded by modern economy and culture of Ukraine.
The Scientific Potential of the Faculty
The Faculty of the Foreign Languages is one of the leading centers of the Ukrainian science. Lead by experienced specialists (professors and candidates of science) the broad range of the scientific researches take place at the faculty. Among them are:
- cognitive and discursive linguistics;
- development of the vocabulary of Germanic and Romance languages;
- functional and linguopragmatic studying of language units;
- linguocultural and sociolinguistic studies;
- actual problems of translating and intercultural communication;
- modern issues of modern literature process;
- modern issues of the teaching methodic of the philological courses;
- language philosophy.
The effective functioning and branching of the faculty scientific paradigm are promoted by the work of post-graduate course in the specialities "Germanic languages", "Romance languages", "Theory and methodic of teaching of foreign languages", and "Study of translating".
Methodological and practical achievements of the faculty scientists get their approbation at the scientific conferences of different levels (including the annual report conference of ZNU), and are published at the special editions of "Herald of ZNU", "New Philology", and other scientific publications of Ukraine and other countries.
The scientific potential of the Faculty of Foreign Languages manifests by the holding of the open scientific seminars and master-classes, at which the scientific achievements of the faculty staff are discussed and verified. The big part of the faculty work is creating and putting into operation the Scientific Student Society. There is the tradition of the annual student scientific readings at the faculty.
Lead by the faculty chiefs the students take part at the scientific and practical conferences, publish their works at the special scientific publications. The best student scientific researches take part at the All-Ukrainian contests of the scientific works.
The Faculty of the Foreign Languages prepares the scientific staff on the regular basis. The faculty specialists always participate at the work of the Youth Academy of Science of Ukraine.
Scientific and Methodical Centers
At the faculty operates:
- The Center of Intensive Training of Foreign Languages (ph. 764-40-17, 2nd building of ZNU, office 111) provides students with the quality knowledge of English, German, Italian, Spanish, Greek, and Hebrew languages. After the courses graduation the students get the certificate. The Center prepares to the exams (tests) for getting the International Certificates in English language - TOEFL, IELTS (British Council).
- French Linguistic Center (ph. 289-12-56) prepares students to the tests for getting the International French Diploma DELF, which proves the general level of speaking French language and is one of the terms for going on probation abroad (especially for students and aspirants of technical, economical, law and environmental specialties) and entrance to the universities in the French-speaking countries.
- The Center of German Language Studying (ph. 289-12-71) proposes the German language courses according to the European standards and using the intensive communicative technologies. It prepares students to the test for getting the official certificates of Gete Institute (Germany), "German language for the foreigners" (Zertifikat Deutsch), "Central Test of the Intermediate Level" (Zentrale Mittelstufenprüfung), and others.
- The Laboratory of the Newest Studying Technologies - the co-project of the Academy of Pedagogical Science of Ukraine and ZNU implements new technologies of studying and forming the informational culture of the students-philologiests, monitors the informational market of the educational servecies, implements module-rating method of education, and researches the Internet as a market of the informational services.
International Relations
The important faculty work direction is co-work with Ukrainian and foreign universities, the international organizations and linguistic departments of the foreign countries embassies. The leading teachers of the faculty are constantly invited to give their lectures at other universities. Famous professor of Ukraine, USA, UK, France, and Germany systematically teach special courses and seminars at the faculty.
Student Life
For the realization of the students creative skills the following organizations operate at the faculty:
- KVN team;
- French-language theatre, which many times was the laureate of the French-language theatres contest of the French Embassy in Ukraine;
- Literary Club, which organizes the poetry readings.
