The origin of the department of English philology looks back to 1957, when a foreign language as second specialty was established on the Philological Faculty. Then in 1963 English was selected as the separate specialty within the coursework of the philological faculty. In 1966 year the first graduating students received the diplomas in specialties “Russian and English languages”, and the department of English was formed then. In 1978 year on a faculty there were two departments, which taught English: department of English language (head – E.A. Shama), and department of English philology (manager – Yu.A. Zacniy). In December 1992 they were transformed in the department of the practice of English language (head of L.M. Latun), and the department of the theory of English language (head of V.I. Skibina). In diffeent periods the department of practice of English language was headed by L.M.Latun, S.Ya.Litvak, G.I.Prikhod'ko.
