The Faculty graduates can work as journalists, news anchors, radio DJs, redactors of TV and radio programs, image-makers, press secretaries, designers, advertisers, reporters, correctors etc.

The Faculty History
In 1997 the specialty “Journalism” was opened at the Philological Faculty of ZNU. In September 2004 the Faculty of Journalism was created, which is the youngest in the university at the moment. Dr. Volodymyr Mykolayovych Manakin headed it. The first enrolment of Master students was done in 2005.
2005 was also the year, when the specialty “Publishing and Editing” was opened. Students majoring in this specialty have the possibility to get knowledge in the publication art design, publishing production and architectonics, literary editing, polygraph, copyrighting and mass-media management.
In 2006 the specialty “Advertising and PR” was opened, which was very on time since this realm is speedily developing in Ukraine. ZNU is the only university in the region providing education in this major. The possible professional occupations are in PR management, branding, image making, PR agencies, informational and analytical centers, design studios, and in the advertising agencies.
During the Faculty operation there were defended several candidate dissertations (I.S. Bondarenko 2004, K.O. Buslaeva 2005, Ju.I. Shmyga 2006, G.O. Polyakova 2006, and T.V. Ivanyuha 2007). Nowadays T.S. Smaglyuk and A.D. Baranetska are studying at the aspirantura (post graduate study) of Kyiv National University named by T. Shevchenko. The famous scientists work at the Faculty: V. Manakon, V. Shevchenko, V. Rizun, M. Gumennyy,
V. Shklyar.

The Faculty of Journalism actively co-work with Ukrainian and foreign higher educational institutions, media NGOs, and government agencies such as Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Kyiv National University named by T. Shevchenko, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section, IREX U-Media, BBC Trust Foundation (UK) etc.
In May 2005 there was organized and held the international conference “The globalization and problems of Ukrainian mass media” at the faculty. It gathered more than 150 scientists and journalists from Ukraine and abroad.
In April 2007 the International scientific and practical conference “Student mass media in Ukraine: the reality and perspectives of development” took place. It was funded by the grant awarded to the Faculty student Katerina Sirinyok. The representatives from 24 regionf of Ukraine participated in the conference.
In October 2007 another conference was organized at the Faculty. The conference entitled “Zaporiz’ka Pravda: a Look Trough the Years” was devoted to the oldest newspaper of the region “Zaporiz’ka Pravda”.
The Faculty students are very active in the studying and science. In 2004 K. Sirinyok won the 2nd place in the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Publishing and Editing, and in 2006 the 3rd place took K. Valygula. In 2007 A. Ostroglyad won the 4th place in the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Journalism, where O. Koshkalda won the 1st place.

Since 2004 the university press center has been operating. Its head is Iryna Bondarenko, the rector’s assistant, Docent of the division of Journalistic Creativity, Advertising and PR. In 2004 the local TV studio was also opened. It gave the possibility to provide student with the internships in TV production and filming inside the university.

The faculty teachers and students participates in the international projects, won different grants and went to probations to various foreign countries. There are close links with journalism schools in Austria, UK, Kanada, China, Poland, Germany, USA, and France. The faculty dean Volodymyr Manakin is currently participating in the Fulbright Program in U.S. The faculty teachers N. Kolesnykova and V. Kostyuk were also on training in U.S. Ju. Shmyga and
K. Buslaeva participated in the media trainings in journalism organized by British Councils in Ukraine.
In 2005-3006 a student Katerina Sirinyok studied Journalism and Mass Communication in the Graceland University (Iowa, USA) as a participant of the Eurasian Undergraduate Exchange program (UGRAD). Currently another student Tatiana Sur n enrolled in the American university as a participant of UGRAD 2007-2008.
According to the study held by International Project BBC Trust the Faculty of Journalism of ZNU was named as one of three best journalism schools in Ukraine.
Student life
The student life at the faculty is very active. The students Elina Savustyanova and Katerina Grechanovska won the 1st prizes of the contests “Miss University 2004” and “Miss University 2005”, Ganna Klymenko holds the title “1st Vice Miss University 2007”. At the university contests between freshmen the Faculty won 3rd place (2004) and in 2005 and 2006 it was 1st.
The
Student Scientific Society actively works at the faculty. Its head is Katerina Sirinyok.
