January, 19 school students from Energodar, a small town in Zaporizhzhya region, have visited ZNU for the next session of Young Physicist School, established last year at the Faculty of Physics with the assistance of Research and Methodological Centre under Administration for Education of Municipal Council (Energodar), Teaching and Education Complex # 5 and “Harmonia”, multi-disciplinary gymnasium.
The young Physicists, accompanied with their vice school head and teachers ofPhysics have visited ZNU. и
Within the session framework 43 students of 9, 10 and 11 grades have performed a range of tasks of Physical Practicum previewed by the school curriculum.
At the Department of Physics and Teaching Methods the 9 graders have been completing the projects in Electrics on “Determination of the electron charge by electrolysis method”, and “Determination of conductors’ specific resistance” etc.
Laboratories of mechanics and general Physics served for the 10 grade students as base to perform their projects on “Study of uniformly accelerated movement laws by means of Atwood’s machine” (Physics of Metals Department), “Determination of inertia moment in flywheel by dynamic method”, “Determination of gravity acceleration by mathematical pendulum”.
The students of 11th grade have been carrying out their projects in Basics of Electronics at the Department of Semiconductor Physics where they have been working on “Study of temperature dependence of metals and semiconductors’ resistance”, “Forced oscillations in oscillatory circuit” and “Study of semiconductor diode”.
Faculty teachersrepresented with professor V. Girzhon, и professor O. Ivanitskyi, associate professor N. Tykhonska, senior lecturer A. Kulynych and assistant lecturer I. Kenyeva have been engaged in teaching the classes.
They have been assisted by lab technicians Z. Kyrylenko andE. Belayeva, head of the laboratories N. Tunik and senior laboratory assistant I. Koshtenko .
It was a wonderful experience for high school students to be involved in the studies at University level and also to get introduced to measuring instruments and methodologies for conducting physical investigations. The following visit is supposed to be held in Energodar in February, and later in March the young physicists will come to ZNU once again to continue their mastering of new vistas in Physics.
