Yesterday widely-known Ukrainian writer Andriy Kurkov paid visit to Zaporizhzhya National University. City mayor Olexander Sin delivered his welcome speech confessing to be sincere admirer and follower of writer’s works and encouraging students and young people read more books, especially those of quality and grasping interest. The official part was also visited by vice rector for research Victor Gryshchak and vice rector for educational research and academic affairs Natalia Grozovska.

Andriy Kurkov, member on Ukrainian Filmmakers Union and National Union, member on European Cinema Academy, permanent member on European Cinema Academy “Felix” Awards jury panel, the author of numerous novels and children’s books. Over 20 feature and documentary films have been screened after his scripts. Andriy Kurkov is the only post-Soviet writer, whose books are on the top-10 European bestsellers list. The most popular writer’s “Picnic on the ice” novel has been sold out in Ukraine in 150.000 copies, more than any of the books by any contemporary Ukrainian writer.
To the point, this was not the first Andriy Kurkov's visit to ZNU. As before, the meeting was held in the warm and free and easy ambiance. Both students, professors and ZNU staff came to speak to the writer, who has won the audience with his humor, sincerity and buoyancy. Perhaps, this was the argument for the answer on his personal credo: “Do love life and the life will love you back!” Andriy Kurkov was eager to answer the audience questions, shared his perception of life and plans for the future, and he also confessed that hehad delayed the scheduled flight to China for one day in order to meet with ZNU students.
Besides, the writer had one more meeting at Dovzhenko Cinema Hall.
