oday the meeting the Commission on Ecology, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources of the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has began at Zaporizhzhya National University. About thirty leading experts in the field of Ecology from different universities of our country took part in its work.

n Ecology, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources of NMR of MES of Ukraine, the Rector of Odessa State Environmental University Sergiy Stepanenko, the head of the Sector of Natural and Agricultural Education of IITZO of MES of Ukraine Natalya Tymoshenko, the Vice-rector of ZNU Oleksandr Bondar, the Dean of the Faculty of Biology professor Lyudmyla Omelyanchik, the head of the Department of General and Applied Ecology and Zoology professor Oleksandr Rylsky.
During the solemn opening of the meeting of the Commission on Ecology the first Rector of ZNU Oleksandr Bondar welcomed the participants

- We welcome within the walls of our university researchers from all over the country, who are solving the topical issue on environmental protection. We are delighted that the next meeting of the Commission on Ecology is held exactly on Zaporizhzhya land. The scientists have noted the great human pressure that occurs in our region. The plowed agricultural land index is more than 60%. All it needs an immediate solution of the ecological problems and the imple
mentation of the new forms and methods of environmental education that meet international standards. These problems must be solved by the joint efforts as of the ecologists and economists, also of the lawyers and other professionals. I wish all the attendees the successful work.
The Dean of the Faculty of Biology of ZNU Lyudmyla Omelyanchik and the head of the Department of General and Applied Ecology and Zoology Oleksandr Rylsky also wished the participants the fruitful work. Lyudmyla Oleksandrivna introduced the participants into the history and stages of development of the Faculty of Biology, the fields of scientific work which is carried at the faculty. Specifically, she described the collaboration of the Faculty of Biology with the ecological laboratories of Zaporizhzhya enterprises and the development direction of “Ecology, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources” at the Faculty of Biology of ZNU.
The chairman of the commission Sergiy Stepanenko, in his turn thanked the administration of ZNU and the representatives of the Faculty of Biology for the excellent organization and the creation of favorable conditions for the ecological commission.
The chairman Sergiy Stepanenko began the work of the commission. He outlined the agenda and acquainted the participants with the regulations, according to which the Commission should study the issue and develop a program from the environmental direction. During the work of the Commission it would be considered the issues on the regulatory and methodological support of educational process organization at the university; the adoption of sectoral standards for the higher education on the environmental direction specialtiesk; the conceptual aspects of the state policy realization in the field of higher education to ensure the sustainable development, and others.
The representatives of the Center for cultural work of ZNU also welcomed the participants of the meeting. The vocalists of the studio “Cantylena” studio presented to the audience their songs about Ukraine.
The work of the Commission continues. And for the next two days, the participants would be able to visit historical sites of Zaporizhzhya: the Zaporizhzhya oak; the nature reserve on the Khortytsya island and the historical complex “Zaporizka Sich”; the biostation of ZNU and the natural reserve “Kamyani mogyly”(“The Stone graves”). As part of the Environmental Commission work the Research Library of ZNU prepared the thematic exhibition. There were presented the research and periodic publications in thematic chapters "Ecology", "Environmental Education", "Environmental Security" and others.
