This academic year in Zaporizhzhya National University on the initiative of the Rector Mykola Frolov began implementing a new program of learning foreign languages (English, French, German). Now students will study them from the first to the last year.
Thus, according to Head of the Department of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Ph.D. in Philology, associate professor Stanislav Ivanenko, freshmen of all not profile Faculties of our university intensively study foreign languages throughout study period in ZNU. In his opinion, today people with higher education should thoroughly know at least one, and ideally - several foreign languages. It complies with European standards of education and the priority areas of our university - ZNU transformation on regional university of European standard.
All freshmen of not profile Faculties of ZNU during his first lesson in a foreign language have been written and oral test to determine their level of proficiency. According to test results, students were divided into subgroups of 15 people each. This applies to all faculties of ZNU, except Faculty of Foreign Languages, Management, and of "International Economics" (Faculty of Economics) and "Tourism" (Faculty of Physical Education), where students from the first to the last and courses always intensively studied foreign language.
Teaching a foreign language to unprofessional faculty provides training for students to communicate in a foreign language in oral and written forms within their future profession. The first priority is, of course, improve the basic knowledge of a foreign language in the first year, and of communicative competence in a foreign language professional communication students will gradually over 2nd-4th years.
The question of methodological maintenance of educational process, the problem of improving ways of teaching foreign languages in non-special Faculties engaged staff of the Department of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes of the Faculty of Foreign Philology.
In addition, some teachers of the Faculties of ZNU independently contribute to improvements in knowledge of foreign languages by students. For example, the Department of Social Pedagogics and Psychology organizes for students linguistic trainings, to stimulate the interest of young scientists to learn English. Students of the Law, Economics and other Faculties attend English lectures on professional subjects, hold meetings of English speaking clubs, etc.
