Kiron Reid: "ZNU is changing and I like it!"

25.05.2015 14:46 Міжнародна співпраця іноземні гості

The day before of his return to home, Zaporizhzhya National University guest from Liverpool shared his impressions on staying at the university and in our city. Kiron Reid for the third time visited Zaporizhzhya and again worked as a teacher and a volunteer at ZNU. A lawyer by profession, gave lectures not only for future lawyers but also for students of the Faculty of Foreign Languagrs and the Faculty of Journalism. Sociable Englishman not transcend by academic hours but also during the month he had meetings with Heads of ZNU Departments as well as communicated with the university administration and visited student's concerts.

About Changes at ZNU

Kiron Reid noted that for a short period of time our university markedly changed. It is subject to the university exterior, its territory and scientific achievements of its workers. "Walking through the university campus is very nice, you have get fantastic tulips! I noticed that a few months have been repaired three audiences at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and several young researchers passed candidate examinations. It's great!".

About Teaching Staff and Students

"The university has friendly, generous and munificent staff, which consists of real enthusiasts. The staff communicates very closely with mutually support. You work a lot, even on Saturday. Some students helped me with the translation, so they received language practice. The skill level of foreign language they have - is very good. I visited the spring festival of talents and was very impressed with students' creative abilities".

About Conferences

"A lot of conferences are held in the form of lectures - someone sitting in the presidium and the lecturer gives a lecture. It turns out that the audience seemed torn, there is a certain distance. I'm more impressed by conferences in the form of round table discussions".

About Students' Desire to Go Abroad

"It is very sad. They look for higher salaries in Europe but a better life is in Ukraine. You have developed a family relations, belonging to a community, to a certain land (region). You spend a lot of time with your families, have positive values and do many things by yourself. Now in Great Britain we need to recover these relationships".

About Tourism and Discommunization

"I'm surprised of people, which have the desire quickly to get rid of Soviet symbols and names. It needs extra funds from the city budget. It would be better to use them for development of tourism and repairing of roads. Zaporizhzhya interesting for tourists in the way of its distinction from European cities. You have terrible bus and trams but there are a great selection of cafes for people with any level of income. While staying at Poland I have noticed that some cities is quite similar to Zaporizhzhya - planning and buildings - but it looks more cared. You can also change your city".

About the mission

"The task which I chose for myself is to promote a modern life in Eastern Ukraine. About 80 percent of the information which I provide in social networks, not abou education but about everyday life. I want to show to all, that Ukraine is a modern civilized European country, but it is not what all over the world see on TV.
At the university I arrived on a voluntary basis, at my own expense. In the nearest future I would like to know more about the region, current Ukraine, which will give me a good experience for career development, including international work".
