Students of the Faculty of Journalism taught pupils with basics of media literacy

On Novembr 30 the 2nd year students of the Faculty of Journalism Taisiia Zozul, Ilona Davydenkova and Serhii Malovichko held a lesson with media literacy in 10th form of ZML (Zaporizhzhya multidisciplinary lyceum) "Perspektyva" within the framework of the South Centre Media Literacy. The event was held within the framework course of study "Theory of Mass Information", which teaches Associate professor of the Department of Publishing and Editing Nataliia Tiapkina.

The topic of the lesson, students chose computerization and its impact on society and consequences. At the beginning of the lesson representatives of ZNU introduced students with the concept of media education, its purpose and activities of the South Centre Media Literacy. Students are given the opportunity to pupils to express their own understanding of the concepts of "information" and "informatization".
During the meeting, high school students learned about the impact of informatization for different areas of social life: medicine, education, etc., and got acquainted with the work of the mass media. In addition, the students watched a video about the international experience of electronic government in Europe.
Students discussed with the positive and negative consequences of informatization. For example, they honestly admitted that they can not imagine their lives without the Internet and gadgets and prefer virtual communication, rather than face-to-face contact.
At the end of the lesson, students answered for all the questions of pupils, talking about the features of training at the Faculty and specific the profession of journalism.
