January 16 at the Faculty of Law of Zaporizhzhya National University took place the thesis defense of the second year master’s students of full-time and correspondence departments. The uniqueness of this event lies in the fact that for the second year in a row, students can choose the English language for the writing and presentation of the final research papers. Last year this opportunity was used by 6 students, but this time – 10.

In addition, the peculiarity of this year’s defense was the fact that it was attended not only by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Tetyana Kolomoyets, and the teaching staff, but also by special guests – the representatives of institutions and organizations with which the faculty cooperates.
The second year master’s students chose the topical issues of domestic law and legal sphere for their theses. In particular, in their speeches, they considered the improvement of the system of registration services in Ukraine, public administration in the sphere of foreign economic activity in terms of administrative reform, legal regulation of behavior for government employees.
After each presentation there was the discussion in English. The guests of the event noted the strong points of the presentations, gave advice about what future lawyers need to complete and develop.
According to the results of the theses defense, professors and honorary guests pointed out not only a good level of the graduate students’ knowledge of English, including legal nomenclature, but also their ability to stay in front of an audience, carefully give reasons for their point of view, seeking to understand the relevant legal issues. In particular, the coordinator of the Center for International Legal Studies appreciated the knowledge, initiativity and diligence of the representatives of ZNU Faculty of Law.
Everyone who has defended thesis in English will receive an appropriate certificate during the graduation. This will be an additional advantage for young professionals in their career building. Today more and more students of the faculty are interested in the opportunity to defend their theses in a foreign language.
