Recently, the Associate Professors of the Department of Theory and Practice of Translation from English of Zaporizhzhya National University Oleksandra Holovko and Svitlana Zapolskykh have visited for an educational purpose the Narva College of the University of Tartu (Estonia). There they undertook an internship according to the program "Erasmus+". This visit became the next stage in the development of cooperation between ZNU and the Narva College of the University of Tartu. The first stage took place in November 2016 when the delegation of ZNU, under the leadership of the Vice-Rector for Research Hennadiy Vasylchuk, visited Estonia on a study visit in the framework of the project "Introduction of the model of multilingual education and the methodology of an integrated teaching of subject and language (CLIL) in Zaporizhzhya National University and Zaporizhzhya region".
During this time the teachers found out more about the history of the University of Tartu, the special aspects of teaching courses in different languages, the use of CLIL methodology in the teaching of academic disciplines, the specifics of writing a master’s thesis, got to know the concept of "electronic lecture" and how to use the Moodle platform to deliver lectures in a distant format.
This time the lecturers of ZNU took part in the VI International Conference "Frontiers of CLIL and ELT". Among the internationally renowned speakers there were such experts in CLIL methodology as: Phil Ball (with the report "Three dimensions of CLIL"), Jen McArthur (the report "Thirteen ways of using poetry in teaching English language"), Ann Weldy (the report "Characteristics of the English language vocabulary"), Jean Linean (the report "CLIL in the classroom: how to develop four types of skills"), Mark Levy (the report "What makes a CLIL program successful?") and others.
In addition to the exploring of teaching process in the Narva College, the teachers visited cultural events, including a meeting of the debate club on the issue "I am a member of minority in a small country", a weekly music club "Let’s have a cup of jazz…", which this time was represented by the Uzbek folk music, etc.
During the study visit Svitlana Zapolskykh and Oleksandra Holovko discussed with the representatives of the Narva College of the University of Tartu further steps for implementation of the joint Estonian-Ukrainian project "Implementation of the multilingual education model and the methodology of integrated teaching of subject and language (CLIL) in Zaporizhzhya National University and Zaporizhzhya region".
The lecturers came back in high spirits and with the desire to use the acquired knowledge in practice.
