The other day in the Conference Hall of the Kyiv Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University was held a public lecture on the role of institutions, standards and honor code of the legal profession in the rule of law. Law students of ZNU joined the event in the format of an online conference.

The coordinators of the USAID program "New Justice" jointly with the Rule of Law Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University carried out a series of public lectures "Legal conversations". The speaker of the event was a Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer at the Department of Politics and Public Administration of the University of Konstanz (Germany) Cindy Wittke. She presented the audience with a presentation on the topic: "Role of the Legal Profession’s Institutions, Standards and Honor Codes in Strengthening Rule of Law: an International Law Perspective".
The lecturer drew attention to the practice of global law firms on pro bono representations of their clients in the context of efforts for the establishment of peace and the formation of the constitution. Mrs. Wittke analyzed if the national legal profession’s Honor Codes were efficient enough to ensure proper professional behaviour of the global law firms while providing legal services in the post-conflict context with a weak local legal institutions. Also during the event, there was a talk about if it was advisable to create a transnational legal profession’s Honor Code to improve the quality of legal services in such context.
The event was intended to improve the quality of legal education, to introduce modern teaching methods, as well as to increase public awareness about the complex issues of the rule of law.
Law students assessed their participation in the event as very productive, as well as interesting and informative. They expressed their gratitude to the Dean of the Faculty of Law Tetyana Kolomoyets, because thanks to her initiative the future lawyers of ZNU created a tradition to take an active part in the public lectures of the Kyiv Center of the Ukrainian Catholic University.
