Ambassador of Sweden Martin Haastriu visited ZNU on the presentation of the exhibition "AccessAbility. To live in dignity despite the fate"

Zaporizhzhia national university was visited by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Sweden in Ukraine Mr. Martin Haastri. His arrival took place in the framework of the presentation of the exhibition "AccessAbility. To live with dignity despite the fate", organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine, the Swedish Institute, the National Assembly of People with Disabilities in Ukraine and ZNU.
This exhibition is held from September 19 to October 19 on the basis of the university’s scientific library. Anyone can learn about 24 stories (10 Swedish and 10 Ukrainian)of men, women and children. Each character of the project is, first of all, a person who has the right to a decent life and equal opportunities with others. At the same time, the works of photographers Marcus Marsetika (Sweden) and Dmytro Shytko (Ukraine) are striking with the desire to convey the greatness of people who want to live a full life, develop, help those who need it.
The event was attended by the representatives of universities and public organizations of Zaporizhzhia, among them were people with special needs. By the way, at the beginning, one of the heroines of the exhibition, Sasha Bohdanova, an 18-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia, who was diagnosed with autism, amazed everyone with her virtuoso playing the cello. Sasha finished school and seeks to devote her life to music.
First vice-rector of ZNU Oleksandr Bondar and vice-rector for scientific work Hennadii Vasylchuk thanked the organizers of the exhibition, because the task of educational institutions is not only to provide solid knowledge, but also to inculcate human values in young people.
Oleksandr Bondar handed to Mr. Ambassador "The Annals of Zaporizhzhia National University", published for the anniversary of the university.
In turn, Mr. Khastri thanked the organizers and participants of the event and mentioned that this exhibition has been held in many cities of Ukraine. Such events create platforms for discussing a very important and relevant issue.
He also thanked ZNU, as it hospitably met all the participants of the round table and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
The representative of the National Assembly of people with disabilities in Ukraine, Volodymyr Azin, devoted his presentation to the actual topic “Accessibility and Design”. He noted that, the medical model of disability in Ukraine is gradually changing to a social model. This, in turn, leads to the creation of a universal design and intelligent devices.
Olha Ponomarenko, dean of the Faculty of Social Pedagogy and psychology, and Volodymyr Bondarenko, students of the faculty, professor of the philological faculty, and other faculty members attended the discussion.
In addition, the event included a master class in Ukrainian Sign Language from the Chairman of the Council of Sign Language Translators in Kiev, the official representative of the World Association of Sign Language Translators (WASLI) in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
The event participants thanked the organizers for an interesting and fruitful event.
