Recently, representatives of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation have organized a videoconference with the University of Du Maine (France), which has been fruitfully cooperating with Zaporizhzhia National University for many years.
The videoconference took place on February 13 at 3 o'clock. It was attended by French-speaking students of the 4th year, undergraduates of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and the University of Du Maine, as well as the teaching staff of the Department of Romance Philology and Translation, headed by the head of Sharhai I.E. and the department of teaching a second foreign language. Together with professors and students, the dean of the Faculty of Foreign Philology Halyna Moroshkina also took part in the event.
The videoconference was devoted to the consideration of paratextual features of the texts of books by Éric Vuillard “L'Ordre de jour”, “14 Juillet” and Timothée de Fombelle “Neverland”. The speaker of the videoconference was Jean-François Bourdais, professor at the University of Du Maine.
He gave a lecture with the students, during which he told the students what to pay attention to while analyzing the text, what information the book typography contains and how to decipher the information on the cover properly. During the lecture, the students were impressed, because before that they could not imagine how much information was contained in the seemingly ordinary book binding.
In particular, besides the usual information about the author, the title of the book, as well as the plot, the students learned that information plays a big role, as if "hidden" among the lines. This and much more was reviewed during the lecture. ZNU students expressed the hope that such lectures will be held more often.
