ZNU representatives studied multilingualism in Estonia within the MultiEd project and developed a multilingual education strategy for ZNU
During July 19-29, 2022, Varvara Petrosova, director of the Center for Intensive Study of Foreign Languages, and Igor Kudinov, Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology, completed the internship course "Multilingualism and beyond" at the University of Tartu (Estonia). This trip took place within the framework of the implementation of the international project "Erasmus+ KA2" "Development of the training potential of foreign language teachers as a way to introduce multilingual education and European integration of Ukraine / MultiEd". The organization of the trip took place on the initiative and with the support of Tartu University project managers Oleksandra Golovko and Christian Klauks, and the teachers of the course were Estonian lecturers and professors, including the project coordinator Kristina Kalas.
Representatives of Ukrainian partner universities from Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Bakhmut, Poltava, Cherkasy took part in the internship. The participants attended lectures and seminars where they discussed issues of multilingualism, its types, multiculturalism, types of bilingualism, language contacts (structural and pragmatic aspect), language capital, linguistic landscape, language game, language ideology, etc. The participants took part in various discussions, carried out research using the sociological and statistical methods (interview, body map, C-test, etc.), prepared presentations based on their research-experiments.
The result of the application of the acquired knowledge was the development of multilingual education strategies for partner universities and national recommendations for the development of multilingual higher education, which are based on the analysis of the MultiEd study conducted by participating partners in 2020 and 2021. Strategies will be presented for discussion to scientific and pedagogical workers for correction, development of step-by-step actions, implementation at the university.
