Student internship
The department provides prompt information to students about grants for internships abroad and participation in international conferences, provides assistance in the design of applications and recommendation letters.
In 2018, Kirill Abramov, a master's student majoring in 121 Software Engineering, received a 5-month internship at SAP SE,Waldorf,Germany, after receiving a scholarship from the Internship Program of German Business forUkraine.
In the summer of 2018, after completing the third year of undergraduate in 121 Software Engineering, students Stanislav Kiyan and Vlad Klitsunov underwent a three-month research internship inCanadathrough the Mitacs Globalink research Internship Program atCarletonUniversity,OttawaandAthabascaUniversity,Edmonton.
In 2018, 4th year 121 Software Engineering undergrad student Antoshin Kirill won the competition "Seeds for the Future" from Huawei Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science and as part of a team of 10 students from 6 cities of Ukraine visited Beijing (China) and completed an internship in Shenzhen, at Huawei headquarters.
Darya Dryga, Anastasia Marchenko and Anna Bublik, students majoring in 121 Software Engineering, “Software Systems” educational program, won a grant to ensure their participation in the European Congress “Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit”, November 2019, in Poland, Warsaw.
Students of the department take an active part in international IT competitions. In particular, student Vladyslav Makarian became a bronze medalist of the International Olympiad in Information Technology "IT-Universe 2013/2014", the final of which took place in June 2014 in Astana (RepublicofKazakhstan), head Associate Professor Anatolii Bezverkhyi
Licensed Microsoft software for students and labs
Students and teachers of the department in educational laboratories and at home use only licensed software due to the annual academic subscription Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching.
The staff of the department made its choice in favor of respect for intellectual property in 2005 and does not betray its beliefs to this day.
During this time, the academic program changed its name three times:
MSDN AcademicAlliance> Dream Spark Premium > Microsoft Imagine > Microsoft Azure Dev Tools for Teaching.
The respect of the staff of the SoAS department and future programmers for intellectual property rights remains unchanged. The implementation of this integrity project is going under the slogan "For future programmers, licensed software is not good or bad, it is right."
Internship and international activities of teachers of the department
Teachers of the department are represented in the international professional communities. Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova since 2003 she has been actively involved in the work of the International Society for Engineering Pedagogy, thanks to which the principles of engineering pedagogy are used to intensify the educational activities of students majoring in 121 Software Engineering, educational program "Software Systems".
Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova has been active on the Cisco’s Networking Academy Advisory Board since 2018.
Attention is also paid to foreign internships of teachers of the department and their participation in international summits and conferences.
In 2018, Associate Professor Olena Mykhailutsa took an internship inBulgariaat the Technical University of Varna on the topic "Modern trends in higher education in the European Union. Experience ofVarnaTechnicalUniversity".
In 2019, Associate Professor Olena Mykhailutsa completed an internship atISMAUniversity(Riga,Latvia). The main purpose of the internship at the Higher School of Information Systems Management (ISMA) was to undergo training on the program "New technologies and innovations in higher education. Active teaching and learning”.
Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova 5 times participated in international summits for partners of the Cisco Academies Program: Cisco EMEAR Networking Academy Partner Summit in 2015. (Rome,Italy), 2016 (Berlin,Germany), 2017 (Athens,Greece), 2018 (Marrakech,Morocco), 2019. (Lisbon,Portugal).
Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova participated in scientific and practical conferences Cisco Live 2019 and 2020 (Barcelona,Spain).
InternationalEducationCenter “CiscoAcademy”
Since 2005, theInternationalEducationalCenter“CiscoAcademy” (headed by Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova) has been working effectively at the SoAS Department. Students majoring in 121 Software Engineering, under the guidance of Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova study the courses of the educational program "Software Systems" based on the Cisco Academies Program courses. Each course is presented in English, Ukrainian, Russian with free choice made by the student. This approach was introduced in the disciplines: "Hardware and Software Fundamentals", "Organization of computer networks", "Network Routing and Switching Essentials", "Security of Programs and Data", "Internet of Things Software".
This work of Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova for the sixth time since 2014 receives the “Instructor Excellence Expert” award from Cisco Academies Program (TOP 10% of the best instructors in the world).
According to the results of 2019, the Cisco Academy of Engineering Institute of ZNU received the "Above and Beyond Partner Award 2019" for a positive impact on the community of Academies in the EMEAR region in the field of innovation and leadership.
The Cisco Academy Instructor Training Center, which operates under the auspices of SoAS Department, has received Premier status, entering the TOP 10% of the best in the world. The center trains Cisco Academy instructors, most of whom are school computer science teachers.
The Cisco Academy Support Center, which works at the SoAS department and provides support to the Academies opened in schools of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv regions, received the Premier + status for the second time in 2019, entering the TOP 5% of the best in the world.
The Cisco Community Spotlight Award honors the rapid actions of Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova to radically change the ways of learning and interaction with students and conducted during this time initiatives for professional development of educators in the organization of distance education during the quarantine of COVID-19 in the spring of 2020.
International grants of the Departament
In 2010, under a NATO grant "Creation of an educational alliance of technical universities of Ukraine under the leadership of NTUU "KPI", the department received modern telecommunications equipment for laboratory classes on computer network technologies.
In 2013-2014, commissioned by the international company "Cisco Systems Management B.V." the department performed the organization and conduct of training on the course “PC Hardware and Software”, training of teachers of computer science in the Zaporozhzhia region took place to expand the network of Cisco Academies in the Zaporizhzhia region. The total cost of the work performed was $15,000.
In 2017, the department became a microgrant in the amount of $2,500 from INLEA (USA) to conduct a series of webinars for schoolchildren and teachers of Ukraine on the use of the Packet Tracer simulator.
In 2017/2018 academic year SoAS Department received a grant from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) to work on the project "Matching IT Essentials curriculum to the Ukrainian Educational Program on Informatics for Secondary / High Schools" (CG ID #: 794110). The implementation of the project allowed to improve the quality of teaching computer science in schools and colleges of Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa regions. The total cost of the project is $10,000. The project manager was Associate Professor Nataliia Poliakova.
Involvement school students in international IT events
Teachers and students of the department are actively working to attract school students of Zaporozhzhia and Ukraine to international IT events. Thus, in October 2019, the European Code Week was held to encourage young students to program. The event is registered on the website of the international initiative:

Since 2013, the department has joined the international movement for gender equality in IT. Meetings of successful graduates are held with potential entrants both in person and online. In April-May 2020, teachers and alumni of the SoAS department together with the Cisco Academies Program held an online marathon Girls Power Tech'20 for the International "Girls in ICT Day", which was attended by 2400+ schoolgirls . The young girls learned about the prospects of IT education and careers from successful graduates of the Educational and Scientific Engineering Institute of ZNU, specialty 121 Software Engineering, educational program "Software Systems".
