Applied Research

Search for biologically active substances of synthetic and natural origin, the studying of their physicochemical properties and biological activity.

Lecturers and postgraduate students of the department conduct research in the general departmental direction "Search for biologically active substances of synthetic and natural origin, the studying of their physicochemical properties and biological activity".

Government grants

The lecturers of the department fulfilled the government grants: 6/06 "Synthesis of biologically active substances based of N- and S-substituted sulfur-containing amino acids and their analogues" (2006-2008, Head – Professor L.O. Omelyanchik). Today the department realizes the research "Rational design of S,N-modified amino-thiols as potential anti-radiation agents (No. 0119U000226) under the guidance of Associate Professor Kornet M.M. Scientific researches on synthesis, computer prediction and study of physicochemical and biological properties of derivatives of six-membered nitrogen-containing heterocycles are performed on the basis of the Laboratory of Biotechnology of Physiologically Active Substances (Head of the Laboratory – Professor O.A. Brazhko).

Scientific work of students

Students are actively involved in the scientific work of the department. There are student extracurricular activities at the department (on scientific problems, which are studied by the teaching staff). In the 2015-2019 academic years, students co-authored over 285 publications. There is Association of Young Scientists at the Faculty, where studies are conducted in all areas of scientific activity of the departments.

Under the direction of the department scientists, it is carried out the preparation of scientific student competition works, the level of that works has been repeatedly highly evaluated at various All-Ukrainian and regional scientific events. Students of the specialty 102 "Chemistry" (branch - 10 "Natural sciences") in 2015-2019 actively participated in the conference "Молода наука ", which was held by the student community of the Faculty of ZNU, annually participate in the scientific university conference and the competition "The best expert in chemistry". We should mark the achievements of the students of the chemistry department: in February 2017, 3rd year student Tetyana Tyurina won the annual All-Ukrainian competition for inventive and innovative projects of ecological and naturalistic fields (diploma for the 1st place in the category "Medicine and Health"); Master Teplova Yana achieved the Certificate of Excellence in student research during 2016-2017 and in competition of Science Day (May 2017); in 2018, the 2nd year student Danylo Maslov reached the Diploma of the winner of the All-Ukrainian Biological Forum of Student "Touch of Nature"; Master Alla Kuchmenko has won the 2nd place based the results of the European Project Activity Fundamentals course within the European Erasmus Program under the direction of J. Monet European Project Culture (EUOPROC) (2018); the 4th year student Eugeniia Vladova achieved a Certificate of Excellence in research during 2017-2018 and Science Day (2018).
