Professor Victor Chabanenko, dean of the Faculty of Philology made significant contribution to the growth and advancement of the department.
In 1996 a room, furnished and styled like traditional Ukrainian front room 'svitlytsa,' was opened at the faculty. It demonstrates the lifestyle, manners and customs of Ukrainians inhabiting our territory.

Our department sustains close collaboration with municipal schools, Sich college, National Technical University, Law Institute, Public House.
Department educators deliver lectures on problematic issues in Ukrainian language and literature at the military units and N. Krupska Library. Close ties are established with the Lyceum of Water Transport, Commercial Technical School, Zaporizhzhya Gorki Regional Scientific Library, Regional Society of the National Fellowship of Ukrainian writers, 'Dyke Pole' (Wild Field) publishing house, International Association of humorists 'Vesela Sich' (Cheerful Sich), editorial board of the journals 'Khortytsia', Zaporizhzhya, 'Morska derzhava' (Sea Nation) in Sevastopol.
Currently Ukrainian Studies are introduced in educational institutions both as the science on Ukraine and philosophy of knowledge – from the perspective of ethics, spiritual culture and faith of the nation, ideals and conceptions of its historical mission.
The department performs its tasks after the following scientific directions:
- Professional Ukrainian language - problematic issues in professional terminology functioning;
- Ukrainian literature of 20-21st centuries – microanalysis of a literary text;
- Ukrainian Studies at the current stage.
