Research work of the department


Zaporizhia National University sowing first place in Ukraine in the humanitarian and artistic direction of the state certification of scientific activity. According to the published according to the results of the state certification of ZNU took 2nd place in the classification assessment and 1st place in the expert assessment among Ukrainian higher education institutions of the humanities and arts profile. The university was certified for category “A” (100 points) — the highest possible. In this direction, among the descriptions of the impact, the achievements of the Department of Design were also presented, which actively forms the humanitarian and artistic component of ZNU: implements creative projects, international collaborations, introduces innovative educational practices and research initiatives.

From September 1, 2021 to February 28, 2025, scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Design under the leadership of the Associate Professor of the DepartmentH. Chemeryscarried out research work on the topic "Design Education and Practice: Development Paths in the Context of Digitalization and European Integration" (registration number NRAT № 0121U113246). The purpose of the research work is to develop methodological principles and substantiate the conditions for the effective implementation of the identified ways of developing design education and practice in the context of digitalization and European integration. From January 23, 2024 to December 31, 2026, H. Chemerys participates in the implementation of the project "Socio-Communication Mechanisms of Decolonization Discourse in Conditions of War: Ukrainian and Global Contexts" (youth competition of scientific projects 2023), which was selected for implementation and funding by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated December 27, 2023 No. 1569 under the registration number NRAT 0124U000753.

In 2023, H. Chemerys became the laureate of the non-resident scholarship competition«2023 CEFRES Non-Residential Fellowships for Ukrainian Scholars in Humanities and Social Sciences»and part of the CEFRES team with the status of an associate researcher, which was held with the assistance of the French Center for Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences (CEFRES), as well as institutions united by the CEFRES platform (Czech Republic-France), the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University in Prague to carry out research work on the topic "Development of Methodology of Critical Thinking and Pedagogical Support to Counteract Disinformation and Manipulation of Artificially Reproduced Media Content."

In 2024, H. Chemerys is the laureate of the residency scholarship competition«2024 CEFRES Residential Fellowships for Ukrainian Researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences»and received grant fromFrench Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences to conduct research at CEFRES, with the conclusion contract with the French Institute in Ukraine for carrying out research work on the topic "Visual Narratives, Commemoration of War and Graphic Representation of National Identity: Comparative Analysis of Ukrainian and European Contexts" and further research trip to the CEFRES center.

In 2025, H. Chemerys received the status Visiting Researcher at Indiana University (USA) according to the program"Nonresidential Scholars Program for Ukraine" with the support of the "Big Ten Academic Alliance" to carry out research work on the topic "Researching US Practices of Inclusive Design for the Development of Design Education in Ukraine", whose mentor will be the director of the HCI/d program, K. Gray. As part of the study, a report was made on Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian Studies Conference at Indiana University and the results of the study are presented.

To participate in the "ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods" within the framework of the ICPSR Summer Program, organized by the University of Michigan (USA), the Institute for Social Research and the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research in In 2024, H. Chemerys was selected, and in 2025 — M. Kardashova.

In 2025 H. Chemerys was selected to participate in the Davis Center program at Harvard University.
